Ovulation marks halfway through our cycles during which a mature egg (ovum) is released by a follicle from one of the ovaries. The egg then waits in the oviducts (a.k.a fallopian tubes) for fertilization. If the egg is not fertilized it will disintegrate and will be removed along with the uterine lining and mucus during the next period.
Now we’ve got the sexy science stuff out of the way, why not celebrate the lowkey superstar of the menstrual cycle by channeling its sensual, creative energy?
1. Take yourself on a date
Ovulation is associated with sex (or the absence of) depending on your desire to start a family as this is the window of fertility in our menstrual cycle.
Whether you’re trying to conceive or totally avoiding it, a date with yourself during your ovulation phase is an opportunity to reconnect with your own desires.
Indulge your senses by experiencing an art show or trying new cuisine.
2. Connect with your sensuality
Sexual desire may increase at this time due to a recent peak in estrogen. If you’re trying to get pregnant, the pressure can really be distracting and a bit of a mood kill. Similarly, if you’re being extra cautious about contraception. Find ways to connect with your body and sexuality just for you. This could look like creating a romantic mood in your bedroom, masturbation, or self-massage.
3. Share a playlist/ reading list
Our ovulation phase is a great time for connecting with others. Collaborating with friends in a creative way doesn’t have to take a lot of effort especially when we have so much technology at our fingertips. Create a playlist based on a trip you took with your bestie or start a niche book club.
4. Network
Channel your seductive energy beyond your romantic and social interactions. Networking can help us to foster meaningful professional relationships with people who can help us progress in our careers. Tap into the outgoing nature of this phase and challenge your comfort zone by introducing yourself to people you look up to.
5. Make something with your hands.
Studies have proven that we perform at our creative best during the ovulation phase. This is likely to be so we can attract a mate but “mating” aside, this can be a fantastic time to birth your creative projects. The act of using your hands is a great way to connect with your senses while improving your sharpening skills or taking time for raw expression.
